Methods and techniques we use to create custom lapel pins:

This unique pin is designed to slide and move. The horse runs across the lawn.We use a wide variety of techniques to create our pins. Each lends its own unique attributes to the final piece. But don't worry - you don't have to understand the nuances to create a beautiful custom pin. That's our job!

Hard-enamel or cloisonné: We are pleased to offer the traditional method of cloissone. In centuries past, pins, jewelry and other fine metal pieces were decorated with bits of glass and minerals in 'cells' on the surface of the metal, then kiln-fired to melt the glass and minerals. Due to the limitation in substances that will survive the firing process, the color selection is limited, but pleasingly traditional. Collectors will recognize the quality of this authentic cloissonne production method. See the Wikipedia entry on cloisonné to learn more.

Soft-enamel: This is a modern version of cloissonne offering with lower firing temperatures and therefore a wider range of colors.

Photo-etched: A chemical process is used to transfer the design to the metal, allowing a high level of detail.

Silk-screened: No metal separates the colors. A great technique when a high level of detail is needed for an intricate logo. The color is printed rather than applied with a dropper as in cloisonné or soft-enamel.

Full-color printing: This is especially appropriate when you need a wide range of colors and tones such as a painting or logo that has graded colors, as opposed to flat or spot colors.

Die-Struck: Your design is stamped into the metal. This can be pleasing on its own, or combined with colored enamels.

Dimensional: A small sculpture on your shoulder! The dimensional part of the pin will be metal plates, but color may also be included.

Multi-pieced and 'sliders': Creating a pin in more than one piece for independent movement makes it truly unique.

Metal plating: After color is applied, the metal can plated with your choice of finish. Gold and silver are the most popular.

With any of these techniques, we can add a 'dome' . See the difference below.
